The migrating birds wheel in the sky
Where are they headed?
Or have they arrived?
They follow nature’s primal drive.
Closer to home, the yard birds are free
and hop about with impunity.
They have lost the call of the wild –
each is now civilization’s child.
Now as Earth shifts and warms
all birds must sense the alarms.
The dodo birds are now extinct -
scary because all species are linked.
I hear the migrating birds take wing
and the innocent songbirds sing
while we humans search for eternal spring.
