The Lake Place

The mist rises from the lake
in the chilly dawn.
The ducks are leaving
and winter is coming.
The frost is on the panes
but we will have each other
in our feathered nest.

White and pink and yellow and awesome
the daisies bloom until the cool of autumn.
Most other plants have shed their flowers
that have gladdened us for many hours.

Now there are fields of golden daisies
quiet beauty as far as the eye can see
restoring hope, joy, and tranquility
after a season of chaos and uncertainty.
